Substitute Diego Tardelli scored a late goal for Flamengo in a 2-1 victory over Botafogo in the Guanabara Cup final on Sunday.

Botafogo took the lead when Wellington Paulista burst through the Flamengo defence to score in the 27th minute.

Flamengo seemed to be running out of ideas when the referee awarded a controversial second-half penalty, which Ibson converted.

The game was delayed when players from both sides and several team staff were embroiled in an ugly melee, resulting in two red cards; Flamengo striker Souza and Botafogo playmaker Ze Roberto.

Botafogo were reduced to nine men when Lucio Flavio was dismissed for a professional foul.

Flamengo Tardelli curled the winner with the last kick of the game. Flamengo will now play the winners of the Rio Trophy to determine the Rio de Janeiro state championship.
