A hard weekend for Botafogo,Flamengo,Fluminense and Vasco da Gama. The biggest clubs have found many difficulties against smaller ones in their first fixtures for Taça Rio. On Saturday, Madureira beated Fluminense (2-1). After the match, Coach Ivo Wortmann was fired by the Tricolor Board. A substitute could sign today, some names are speculated, Nelsinho Bastista and Tite are the favourites.
On Sunday, it was time for new surprises, Botafogo, playing at Maracanã, tied with modest Nova Iguaçu (1-1) Marcos Denner opened the score and Dodô equalized. Flamengo also tied, playing away against Friburguense. Renato scored, taking a penalty on 47 minutes of second half. Forward Luizão had a good performance at his debut, scoring twice, but Friburguense commanded the actions. The situation is very tense after new rumors of disagreements among players Renato and Diego Souza.
Vasco da Gama, celebrated Romário’s match number 500 for the club, but had no clemency from its guest, Portuguesa. In a very difficult match, the final result was (2-2) and finished the tragic weekend for the big ones.
