The match was full of options, with both teams losing many opportunities. Vasco started the game on the attack; Valdiran and Ygor were responsible for the best plays and making Fluminense’s defenders confused. Goalkeeper Fernando Henrique had to make 2 great saves. The tricolor squad could only bring some danger in individual failings of Vasco defenders. In one of them, Cláudio Pitbull received the ball alone, in front of Vasco’s keeper, but missed. The actions started to equilibrate, and then Vasco finally scored: After a fault taking, Ygor received the ball, and scored on 33 minutes. Vasco 1-0. On second half, the match also started with many opportunities, after only 3 minutes, Morais made a fantastic pass and Claudemir was free inside the area, and just finished on the right side. Vasco 2-0. It seemed the match was decided already, and coach Renato Gaúcho changed the tactics in to a defensive style. Romário was replaced by Ricardinho and Ramon by Ernane. Fluminense had no alternatives, only attacking. On 12 minutes, in a Lenny headed the ball and it exploded on the bar. It was the beginning of the reaction. On 16 minutes, left winger Jean shot from distance and scored with precision. 1-2. The pressure continued till the end o the match. On 43, Jean dribbled Abedi and received a fault. He once more scored by fault taking, the shot was very similar, with the same precision. Fuminense 2 -2 Vasco da Gama. Now the São Januário squad has 5 points and could be vice leader of Group B if wins Cabofriense on March 15th. This game was delayed because of Carnival celebrations. Fluminense’s situation is more complicated, 4 points. Americano with 7 points, Cabofriense and Flamengo with 5, are the rivals on Group B, for 2 places on the semifinal.
