Corithinans coach Antonio Lopes has quit the Brazilian champions only hours after the club lost 2-1 to Sao Paulo on Sunday. "I quit to ease the pressure coming from the fans and the press," Lopes said on Monday on the club's Web site. Corinthians have won only three of its past seven matches in the Paulista championship but Lopes said the determining factor was a 2-0 loss to Mexico's Tigres on Thursday in the Copa Libertadores, which dropped the Brazilians to third place in Group 4. "The loss in the Libertadores, in the game against Tigres, was what weighed in my decision," Lopes said.

Meanwhile in Rio, Fluminense fired Paulo Campos after just five games incharge, blaming pressure from fans who insulted him throughout their 2-2 draw with Botafogo at the weekend. "The situation became untenable because of the pressure from the supporters," Fluminense director Gustavo Mendes told Globo. Campos had been in charge for jsut 17 days, replacing Ivo Wortmann.
