Lothar Matthaus has quit as coach of Atletico Paranaense after just two months at the Baixada stadium.
After taking control in January Matthaus had enjoyed a successful start in the post. However he was given a 30 day suspension for abusing an assistant referee.
He gave his resignation after citing family reasons for his decision to return to Europe.
"I have informed the club's leadership that I was stepping down," Matthaus told Germany newspaper the Bild. "It was not an easy decision to take. "I was missing my wife Marijana and my children."
