Santos beat Portuguesa 2-0 winning them their first Sao Paulo state championship for 22 years.
Cléber Santana hit the first for Santos in the 23rd minute. Four minutes later an own goal by Portuguesa defender Leonardo secured Santos the win and title.
"This is a very tough and important championship," Santos coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo said. "It's a great accomplishment to have won it."
Meanwhile in Rio the second leg of the Rio de Janeiro state championship final was been played with Botafogo securing the title with a 3-1 win over Madureira at the Maracana.
Dodo hit a brace for Botafogo, before Fabio Junior got one back for Madueira in the 57th, then striker Reinaldo finished the game in the 81st.
"This is very exciting," coach Carlos Roberto said. "It had been nine years since Botafogo won the title for the last time."
