Ronaldo – Brazil still the best!

Ronaldo joined team mate Cafu yesterday as he claimed that despite Brazil’s early exit from the World Cup, and Italy being crowned champions, they are still the best team in the world. His comments were reported in English broadsheet The Guardian.

The striker dismissed the almost incessant criticism that both he and the team have attracted claiming, “it all seems very exaggerated.” Quick to defend coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, Ronaldo argued “he can’t be the only one guilty for the defeat of the national team,” and went on to express his sadness that while their 2002 victory was the county’s, celebrated by the press, politicians and fans alike their recent loss was considered only the player’s and the coach’s. He acknowledged that, “we won’t we won’t win every cup, even though we are the best team in the world.”

Earlier right-back Cafu had told journalists, “this elimination should not change the image of the national team. They have been in three finals in the past four World Cups, with lots of other titles as well . . . It is not always the best team that wins. We were considered the best team that would give a show."

Fifa would also appear to share the views of Cafu and Ronaldo as it was announced today that despite a disappointing World Cup Brazil retain their position at the top of Fifa rankings. Brazil took the number one spot with 1,630 points while world champions Italy came in at number 2 with 1,550 points having risen 11 places. Argentina ranked 3rd (1,472 points), France 4th (1,462 points) and at England 5th (1,434 points).
