Four time world cup winner Mario Zagallo has stepped down as Brazil's technical co-ordinator.

"It's impossible not to associate Zagallo with the Brazilian team," said CBF president Ricardo Teixeira on the CBF's web site.

"There's just been an interruption in his connection, which could continue in another way."

Zagallo won the World Cup as a player in 1958 and 1962, as a coach in 1970 and was assistant to Carlos Alberto Parreira in 1994, when Brazil won their fourth title.

"Zagallo's career is profoundly intertwined with the history of the Brazilian team," said Teixeira. "He has experience and capability to render more services to Brazilian football."
