São Paulo extended their lead at the top of the table this weekend with victory over Internacional who now lie in third place with 40 points, six points behind the leaders. It is only a month since the sides met in Copa Libertadores final, which Intenacional won four-three on aggregate, yet goals from Lensilson and Junior secured a comfortable home win for São Paulo on Sunday. Meanwhile Grêmio kept their championship hopes alive with a four-nil drumming of Botafogo, and now rest in second place on 42 points.

Reigning champions Corinthains defeated Paraná one-nil and despite languishing at the bottom of the table only weeks ago, they now find themselves just nine points behind fourth place Santos. While hopes of consecutive championship victories may have faded finishing in the top-four would ensure qualification for next year’s Copa Libertadores.

The highlight of the weekend was the seven goal thriller between Flamengo and Fortaleza. Visiting Flamengo managed to knock in three in the first thirty minutes only to see Fortaleza mount a fierce comeback and draw level. The match was decided in the 65th minute as Obina's hat-trick goal ensured victory for Flamengo.
