In an interview broadcast on TV Globo over the weekend national team coach Dunga revealed that Milan goalkeeper Dida had asked to be excused from the national team.

Dunga revealed, "He contacted us and explained it is no longer his plan to play for the national team," adding, "He had his motives. We don't want anyone who doesn't take pleasure in playing for the team."

Globo is also reporting that the 33 year old keeper could be on his way out from Milan. Vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed that no agreement has yet been reached over the renewal of his contract, which is currently set to run out in 2007. Galliani admitted, "We want him to stay but Dida isn't irreplaceable. Even if he doesn't stay he will remain our first choice until the end of his time and we will look for another great keeper. But if he stays – we have confidence."
