FIFA president Sepp Blatter has asked Brazil to prove it is capable of hosting the 2014 World Cup before a decision is made of the host nation.

Fifa's policy of rotating the tournament suggests that South America will be next after South Africa in 2010. Currently, only Brazil have bid to be hosts.

Brazil last hosted the competition in 1950 when they famously lost the final to neighbours Uruguay.

Commenting on Brazil's 2014 bid Blatter said ''I can't guarantee that Brazil will be the host,'' ''But the ball is on Brazil's court now.''

In reply the Brazilian government's Brazil Sports Minister Orlando Silva said. ''President Lula reiterated Brazil's interest in hosting the 2014 World Cup,'' ''Brazil will do whatever it needs to make sure the World Cup takes place in Brazil.''
