Carlos Alberto, the Corinthians midfielder linked with a move to the Premiership returned to Brazil to find he is no longer needed at the São Paulo side.
The midfielder was excluded from the team after arguing with coach Emerson Leão. He travelled to London for talks with former MSI front-man Kia Joorabchian but was back in Brazil today to meet with Edvar Simões director of football at Corinthians.
Alberto claims he attended the meeting to discuss his return to training but was told he has been freed from all professional responsibilities at Corinthians until the end of the year. “I was told I cannot help the team at this moment but I will continue to have contact with my colleagues and to support Corinthians.”
In respect to his future the midfielder explained that he met with Kia following his expulsion from the team to, “analyse offers that had been put forward. It is now almost certain that I will return to Europe next year.”
The CBF has already been informed of the suspension and Corinthians are reported to be withholding 40% of the player salary as punishment. Alberto is however disputing the fine claiming he was on official MSI business and continued training while in London.
Speaking of their bust-up during the Copa Sul-Americana game against Lanaus coach Leão claimed, “We are both intelligent men and a good conversation would be the best way to resolve this and would be best for the Corinthians. But now in respect to his position. with the club the best he can do is support the team from a distance.”
Before joining Corinthians in 2005 Carlos-Alberto played in Portugal at FC Porto whom he joined from Fluminense in 2003.
