This morning Cruzeiro President Alvimar de Oliveira Costa announced that Paulo Autuori will become the club’s new coach.

He will leave his current post at the Japanese side Kashima Antlers to replace Oswaldo de Oliveira who stood down on Sunday.

It will be Autuori’s third stint at the club having already led them through 66 games in 1997 and 1999/2000. While in charge he totted up 33 wins, 15 draws and 18 losses securing both the Mineiro Championship and the Copa Libertadores in 1997.

Autuori has coached fifteen different clubs as well as taking on other roles at a further five. As well as his successes at Cruzeiro he presided over Botafogo’s triumph in the 1995 Brasileiro and led São Paulo to victory in the Libertadores and World Club Championship. He has also managed the Peruvian national team and led both Alianza and Sporting Cristal to victory in the national league.

Autuori will join Cruzeiro on January 3rd when Japan’s Emperor’s Cup ends.
