Ronaldinho was voted the best footballer in Europe for the third consecutive year.

The award was announced after a panel of the top 25 football European journalists submit their votes for Uruguayan paper 'El País' in much the same way ‘France Football’ sponsors the Ballon D’Or.

Ronaldinho received a total of 54 votes, keeping Real Madrid and Italy defender Fabio Cannavaro, the runner-up, eleven votes behind the recent FIFA World Player winner. Thierry Henry (Arsenal) came in third with 35 votes.

It’s the first time that a player wins the award three times ina row, Ronaldinho now only being bettered in the paper’s ranking by a Zinedine Zidane who was voted best player on four separate occasions, albeit not consecutively.
