Palermo striker Amauri may miss the rest of the season as he requires urgent surgery on his injured right knee.

Amauri confirmed the diagnosis in a statement on the club's website.

"The doctor has told me that I will need to have an operation," he said.

"I will now reflect for a while before I take a decision. I am in any case calm and I only want to reflect on this possibility."

The Brazilian-born forward, 26, is Palermo's leading goalscorer this season, with his eight goals helping them up to third place in Serie A.
