Its official – after months of speculation Corinthians star Carlos Alberto has finally signed for his former club Fluminense.

Alberto left Fluminense in 2004 to join Porto, then under the control of Jose Mourinho. He helped the Portuguese side to Champions League glory but returned to Brazil the following season.

He formed an integral part of Corinthians’ Brazilerão winning side but recently his time with the Timão has been marred by a series of bust-ups with coach Emerson Leão. He has not played for the club since a blazing and very public row with the coach after he was substituted during his side's 4-2 defeat away to Lanus in the Copa Sudamericana.

Carlos Alberto is represented by Kia Joorabchian’s Media Sports International (MSI) the London based fund and financial backer of Corinthians.

Fluminense's co-ordinator of football Branco told newspaper Lance! Alberto’s transfer had been confirmed by Kia Joorabchian. "We are waiting for some papers from Corinthians, but it is all OK. I am very happy. It was a very difficult negotiation, but I can say that Carlos Alberto is our new player."
