Today (Tuesday) the Kashima Antlers officially confirmed that Oswaldo de Oliveira has been appointed coach – his contract begins on February 2nd and will run until Jan 1st 2008.
Oliveira, who guided Corinthians to victory in the 2000 World Club Championship will replace fellow countryman. Paulo Autuori. In a rather strange twist of fate Autuori has returned to Brazil to take up Oliveira’s former post at Cruzeiro.
Under Autuori Kashmi reached the final of the Nabisco Cup but inconsistent league performance meant they ended the season in a disappointing sixth place.
Oliveira revealed, “I have wanted to work in Japan and it has been a dream of mine to manage Kashima. Now that dream will be realised and I want to seize the chance to do my best.”
Oliveira is not the only Brazilian who will be joining Kashima in 2007. Since the close of the Brasileirão they have already snapped up both Fabão and Danilo from São Paulo and signed Marquinhos from rivals Shimizu S-Pulse.
The latest set of recruits will join the three Brazilians already at the club; Da Silva (ex-São José-), Fernando (ex-Vitória) and Alex Mineiro (Ex-Atlético-PR).
