Flamengo beat Vasco 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to progress to the Guanabara Cup final on Sunday.
Flamengo will face Madureira in the final, who on Saturday beat America 2-1 in the other semifinal in the Rio de Janeiro state championship.
It was Flamengo goal keeper Bruno who became the hero after he stopped the penalty from Emiliano Dudar and midfielder Diego, and midfielder Amaral shot wide.
Only striker Leandro Amaral converted for Vasco in the shootout at Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, while Leonardo Moura, Renato Augusto and Souza scored for Flamengo. Midfielder Renato missed his shot for Flamengo.
It was Obina who put Flamengo ahead in the opening minute in normal time with a low shot from near the penalty spot, with Marcelinho equalizing for Vasco with a diving header from the six-yard line in the 30th.
Mean while in the Sao Paulo state championship, Santos beat Marilia 1-0 with a late header from defender Avalos. The result keeps Santos in first place with 25 points, one point ahead of second place Sao Paulo, which defeated Bragantino 1-0.
