Could it be any worse for Corinthians?

Coach Leão is on his way out, Amoroso has gone, they won’t qualify for the next stage of the Paulistão and all they could manage on Saturday was a 2-2 draw against minnows Sertãozinho. Could things be any worse fro Corinthians?

A paltry 2,184 spectators made their way to the Pacembu this weekend to watch ninth place Corinthians held by a team that look set to be relegated at the end of the season - most were there to call for the head of Leão.

Despite assertions from club President Alberto Dualib that Leão’s position is secure for the next two fixtures at least, the coach acknowledged, “I don’t know if I will be here tomorrow let alone in two months [when the Brasileirão starts]. Its not a pleasant routine but its part of my profession.”

He has already been linked to three clubs in Japan and is said to be keen on a move to Europe.

Speaking after Saturday’s match Wilian explained, “Corinthians is like this; there are always bad phases and good phase; now we are going through a bad phase and I hope we get out of it as soon as possible.”

Few however are likely to share his optimism as with just two games to go Corinthians lie seven points off a spot in the top four which would bring a place in the semi-finals. They have managed just seven wins out of seventeen so far this year.

Corinthian’s fortune’s will not be helped by the exit of former A.C. Milan striker Amoroso. “He’s out, he won’t play anymore - he’s free to look for another team,” the club revealed.

Speaking on Friday MSI’s representative at the Parque São Jorge Renato Duprat also announced the departure of the Director of Football Edvar Simões. “He is an excellent professional but things need to change.”

Duprat is expected to take over the role until a replacement is found.

Meanwhile Wellington, Tamandaré, Daniel and Gustavo are all expected to leave the club before the Copa do Brasil starts and the future of Roger remains uncertain.

It is hard to see how things could be worse for the Coringão.
