50,000 people packed the Serra Dourada stadium in Goiânia to watch Brazil get frustrated by a tough Peru team. Eventually Scraping a 1-0 thanks to Milan sensation Kaka.
Carlos Parreira dismissed calls for Robinho to start and opted for the in-form Lyon midfielder Juninho Pernambucano.
In a slow first half Brazil found it hard to break through Peru's tough midfield. Ronaldo missed two clear chances as his run of bad form appeared to cross into internationals.
The second half continued exactly as the first finished. Brazil dominating but making no clear chances. In the 46th minute Parriera bowed to the cries from the crowd and introduced Santos's star striker Robinho.
Robinho soon got into the action and hit the back of net, only to have the goal disallowed, due to offside.
It took 73 minutes for Brazil to break the deadlock. Ronaldo played the ball across the box to Kaka who struck a well placed shot into the goal.
Brazil held on to the lead but struggled to create any further chances. Parreira will be well aware that Brazil expects much more from the World Champions.
Brazil next play on Tuesday against Uruguay.
